The President of the Sammamish Little League, Jim Dimlow, will be the special guest speaker the June 16 breakfast meeting of the Sammamish Kiwanis. Sammamish Little League serves the south end of the Sammamish Plateau, and covers the southern portion of the City of Sammamish and some unincorporated areas with an Issaquah mailing address.
With participation in youth sports one of the defining characteristics of the city in recent years, Dimlow's discussion with the Kiwanians is sure to shed light on a number of issues currently affecting the city.
The meeting will run from 7 - 8 a.m., and will be held at the Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church, across from Town Hall and next to Skyline High School, at 22818 SE 8th St.
For residents of Issaquah, a representative of the Mountains to Sound Greenway will join the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah on June 16, to talk about their Heritage Study project, the purpose of which is to inventory the multitude of Greenway assets, document their associated threats and needs, and develop a plan for future stewardship.
Isaaquah Kiwanis meetings are held between noon and 1 p.m., at Gibson Hall, 105 Newport Way SW, Issaquah.
For more information about their activities, call 425-392-4016, or e-mail info@issaquahkiwanis.org.
Back up on the Plateau, Kent Kiernan of the Sammamish Citizens Corps will be the guest speaker at the Sammamish Kiwanis' June 23 meeting.
And when he returns from a well-deserved summer break, Eastlake High School Principal Greg Schellenberg will check in to talk about what he has learned after his first year in the role, at the Sammamish Kiwanis meeting on Aug. 11.
Anyone who is interested in listening to these guest speakers, or in the Kiwanis Club in general, is encouraged to come along to one of the weekly meetings, at 7 a.m., each Wednesday. Not only will you learn more about the city in which you live, but also have the opportunity to contribute in a very hands-on fashion to any number of civic events, fundraisers and charitable projects.
For more information, just show up at a meeting and ask for Bob Keller or Nicky Beedle, phone 425-836-4210, or visit www.sammamishkiwanis.org.
