Eastlake High School biology teacher William Monahan has won the 2008 Outstanding Biology Teacher Award.
Monahan has been a teacher in the Lake Washington School District for 16 years.
He received his Masters Degree in Biology from the University of Washington in 2002. Monahan is also a retired military officer who served in the Army for 22 years before entering the teaching profession.
“Bill is truly a competent and caring teacher,” Principal Rondel Hardie said in a press release. “He makes such a difference in the lives of his students.”
A special presentation will be given by the National Association of Biology Teachers at its National Professional Development Conference, October 15-18, in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition to the certificates awarded, Mr. Monahan will be presented with a precision pair of binoculars by Prentice Hall, and also receives a microscope from Leica Microsystems, Inc.
“Such accomplishments and awards should make not only Mr. Monahan’s school district, but the state, proud. He is a priceless member of the education community,” OBTA Director Mary Glodowski said in a press release.
The award has been given out annually since 1961.
