Briefly | Issaquah stops stormwater discharges
October 9, 2008 · Updated 11:47 AM
The Sammamish Plateau Water & Sewer District said Wednesday that Issaquah officials agreed to suspend stormwater discharges beginning Oct. 1 until there is resolution of the city’s appeal of a Department of Ecology order.
Stormwater will be diverted to the North Fork of Issaquah Creek.
The DOE ordered the city earlier this summer to begin monitoring stormwater runoff from the Issaquah Highlands. The city has appealed the order, and officials from the city, the water district and the DOE have been meeting regularly to discuss the issue, said Ron Little, general manager of the water district.
“I am pleased that the city of Issaquah has agreed to stop discharging this storm water runoff so close to our wells — if only temporarily,” Little said. “It is vital that we protect the aquifer, and our water supply, from possible contamination and we take any threat very seriously.”
