Playoff baseball | Crusaders come up shy to Fighting Irish

Eastside Catholic came up just shy of an automatic state berth Thursday night, falling 3-2 to O'Dea at the Southwest Complex. The Fighting Irish drove in a game-winning run in the top of the seventh off starter Matt Boyd, who allowed just five hits for the game. Boyd also had an RBI for the Crusaders along with Jake Gober.

Eastside Catholic faces West Seattle at 4 p.m. today in a loser-out game. The winner plays either Bainbridge or Franklin in winner-to-state game at 11 a.m., Saturday.

Issaquah falls to Inglemoor, takes to road for state spot

Issaquah's offense continued to generate runs, but the Eagles were unable to snag the No. 3 KingCo spot, and a home playoff berth, falling 12-9 to Inglemoor Thursday night.

Issaquah erupted for five runs in the first inning, and led 8-3 after three innings. The Eagles were unable to hold on, however, as the Vikings' Mark Dickerson and Sam Johnston hit home runs in the fourth inning to mount a comeback. Devin O'Donnell was 3-for-4 with two RBI, Brennan Miller was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Gavin Shumaker was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Issaquah plays Kelso on the road at noon, Saturday in a loser-out, winner-to-state game. The Eagles are battling for their third consecutive trip to the state tournament, and seventh trip this decade. They won the 3A state title in 2007 and finished third last year.
