Skyline recovered from its first loss in three years on Friday night by crushing KingCo Crest opponent Newport, 55-6.

Quarterback Jake Heaps threw five touchdown passes to three different receivers and rushed for another score. He connected with Kasen Williams twice, on scores of 39 and 13 yards. He also connected with Cooper Pelluer, Jordan Simone and Michael Ford. Backup quarterback Max Browne found Simone for a 22-yard score in the third quarter and Nick Beauchamp ran in a 31-yard TD to round out the scoring.

Skyline (1-0, 3-1) hosts Garfield (0-1, 2-2) at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2.

Issaquah bowls over Garfield

After struggling the first two weeks of the season, Issaquah's offense has found a groove.

The Eagles nearly matched their three-game point output Friday night, crushing KingCo Crest opponent Garfield, 62-7, for their second straight victory.

Evan Peterson caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Ryan Bergman, including a 62-yard score in the second quarter. He also had TD catches from 14 and 24 yards. Running back Taylor Wyman also scored three times, including a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also scored from 3 and 64 yards out.

Senior running back Grant Gellatly, who missed the first three games of the season with a hamstring injury, saw a brief amount of playing time, scoring Issaquah's first touchdown of the game from 1 yard out. Nik Landdeck and Michael Baba also scored rushing TDs.

Issaquah (1-0, 2-2) will host Eastlake (0-1, 3-1) at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2 at Mount Si High School.

Eastside Catholic passes first league test

Eastside Catholic won its first Metro game of the season on Saturday afternoon, beating Lakeside 28-20 on the road.

The Crusaders, who battled to a 14-14 halftime tie, rallied in the second half behind two third-quarter scores — a 4-yard run from Alec Kimble, and a 2-yard pass from Connor McCormick to Luke Nelson.

Eastside fell behind early when Oliver Krengel returned a McCormick pass 40 yards for a TD. McCormick responded on the next drive, finding Kimble for a 7-yard TD. Nelson then intercepted Andrew Runde, returning the ball 26 yards for a TD.

The Crusaders (1-0, 2-2) travel to Bainbridge (0-1, 2-2) at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2.
