Skyline put up 50-plus points for its second consecutive game Friday, crushing Garfield 55-0 in front of the Spartan homecoming crowd.

Skyline had four rushing touchdowns from three different players, led by Nick Washburn's two TDs. Quarterback Jake Heaps rushed in a 16-yard score and Nick Beauchamp scored from 12 yards out. Heaps also threw two touchdown passes, completing a 17-yard pass to Beauchamp, and a 20-yard strike to Travis Cox. Linebacker Anthony DeMatteo added a 11-yard fumble return for a touchdown and kicker Sean Penberthy had two field goals, one from 37-yards out and another from 25 to round out the scoring.

Skyline improved to 2-0 in league and 4-1 overall. The Spartans travel less than a mile down the hill to face KingCo Crest rival Eastlake (0-2, 3-2) at 7 p.m., Friday.

Eastside Catholic stumbles in second half

Eastside Catholic sat in an ideal position Friday night against Bainbridge, but couldn't hang on in a 36-22 road loss.

The Crusaders pushed their lead to 22-7 to start the third quarter after recovering a botched Spartan onside kick attempt. On the very next play, quarterback Connor McCormick completed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Alec Kimble.

Just as quickly as Eastside increased its lead, however, they lost it.

Spartan running back Alex Johnson had two second-half TDs, leading Bainbridge to 29 unanswered points.

The Crusaders took the lead in the first quarter via a 3-yard TD from running back Chevelle Walker. The sophomore followed his first score up with an 85-yard kickoff return for a TD in the second quarter.

Eastside dropped to 1-1 in Metro and 2-3 overall with the loss. The Crusaders host winless Blanchet (0-2, 0-5) at 7 p.m., Friday, one week before their big matchup with rival O'Dea.
