Skyline fends off rival Issaquah | Boys basketball

Skyline earned a share of the KingCo Crest title Friday night, beating rival Issaquah 56-48.

The Spartans held a 26-24 lead at halftime, but inched away in the third quarter taking a 40-33 advantage.

Skyline senior Cory Hutsen scored a season-high 29 points in the victory. Miles Edwards scored eight and Will Parker added six for the Spartans.

Issaquah, which ended its season with a 3-13 league and 6-14 overall record, was led by Nick Prices' 18 points. Derek Wilson and Joe Evans scored 11 and 10, respectively.

Skyline finished with a 13-3 league record and improved to 17-3 overall. The Spartans finished tied with Garfield (13-3) for the top spot in the KingCo Crest.

League athletic directors met Saturday morning to settle tiebreaker situations. Skyline will have the No. 1 seed in KingCo and host Ballard Tuesday night.

Eastlake stumbles in regular-season finale

Eastlake was unable to hang on against rival Redmond Friday night, falling 59-55 in overtime.

The Wolves led 49-38 headed into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 13-2 in the final frame sending the contest into overtime. Redmond outscored Eastlake 8-4 in the extra 4-minute frame.

Michael Russo kept up with his season-scoring average, tallying a game-high 22 points. Dillon Pericin added 10 for the Wolves.

The Mustangs, who concluded their season at 5-11 in league and 6-14 overall, were led by Josh Bircher's 19 points.

Eastlake fell to 10-6 in league and 13-7 overall. The Wolves earned the No. 5 seed in KingCo and will travel to face No. 4 Woodinville on Tuesday.
