Master Chorus Eastside presents ‘The Circle of Life’

The musical performance will take place on May 6.

The theme song from Walt Disney’s The Lion King provides the inspiration and the opening number in Master Chorus Eastside’s sometimes whimsical, sometimes touching, but always entertaining choral exploration of life’s passages in “The Circle of Life.”

Ponder childhood, love, family, and the wisdom that comes with a spirited old age through Leonard Bernstein’s dynamic Make Our Garden Grow from Candide, African American composer William Dawson’s arrangement of the poignant spiritual Soon Ah Will Be Done, George Gershwin’s Broadway classic Nice Work if You Can Get It, Joan Szymko’s rhythmic It Takes a Village, and more.

“Poets and composers have much to say about the stages of life,” artistic director Linda Gingrich said in a press release. “It makes for some funny, tuneful and profound glimpses of human life.”

The performance will take place on May 6 at 3 p.m. at the Pine Lake Covenant Church on 1715 228th Ave. SE, Sammamish.

Besides The Circle of Life, its 2017/18 season concludes with its perennially popular, family-friendly All-American Independence Celebration in Issaquah’s historic Pickering Barn with a focus on our Constitution.

MCE performs mainly on the Eastside, but has appeared in Benaroya Hall, throughout western Washington and in performances on the Argosy Christmas ship. The Chorus was also invited to the Jamestown anniversary celebrations in 2007, appeared twice in the Choral Festival in Leavenworth, performed in the Greater Seattle Choral Consortiums SeattleSings! choral festivals and on the Columbia River.

All concerts feature entertaining and informative commentary by Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. Linda Gingrich. Gingrich is a long-time Issaquah resident and founder and conductor of Master Chorus Eastside.

She received her Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington and her Bachelor’s degree in voice from Cornish College of the Arts. MCE is a primary cultural resource on the Eastside committed to its core values: craftsmanship, exploration, risk-taking, transcendence, and joy.
