The city of Sammamish Parks and Recreation Department invites locals to “Bee Inspired” and celebrate Earth Day on April 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Beaver Lake Lodge and Pavilion.
This family-friendly Earth Day celebration and volunteer work party will include opportunities to learn, participate, and celebrate the natural environment.
Many of the activities will focus on how everyone can do their part to become a more bee-friendly community.
Activities include learning about caring for native plants, demonstrations from the Master Gardeners, information about renting bees, and lessons on properly removing invasive species.
The first 100 attendees to the event will receive free organic compost from Cedar Grove so that they can return home and nourish their own bee-friendly garden.
The event will also feature plenty of activities for children of all ages including the opportunity to get acquainted with animals such as wallaby, Patagonian mara, dwarf goats, sheep, a little pig, bantam chickens and a rabbit.
Children can also participate in a scavenger hunt around Beaver Lake Park where they can explore nature and win a special prize to help them plant their own garden at home. Other activities include learning to build a bird house, nature walks, food trucks, and a musical performance by Ella Bella Bee and the Pollinators.
Locals looking for a more active way to give back for Earth Day can join one of the volunteer work parties and help to create wildlife habitat and remove invasive plants in Beaver Lake Park.
“We hope that you will join us and Bee Inspired to make all of our Sammamish natural areas more bee-friendly,” parks director Angie Feser said. “This event is a great way to have fun while taking action to support the health of our ecosystem.”
