Youth concerto contest applications open

The Sammamish Symphony's 2015 Youth Concerto competition is open to young musicians 19 years of age or younger who play a woodwind, brass, string, harp, piano or classical guitar instrument. Voice performers are also eligible to compete.

Applications are now open for the Sammamish Symphony’s 2015 Youth Concerto competition.

The contest is open to young musicians 19 years of age or younger who play a woodwind, brass, string, harp, piano or classical guitar instrument. Voice performers are also eligible to compete.

The winner will receive a cash prize of $600 and a performance as a featured soloist with the Sammamish Symphony Orchestra. The second and third-place runners up also will win cash prizes.

Entrants must submit a CD recording of their performance piece, with accompanist, playable in an audio CD player. Entrants also must submit a musical resume with musical and educational history, grade level, experience, previous prizes and performances, personal goals and the name of their current music teacher. A $30 entry fee is also required.

The first place prizewinner of last year’s contest is not eligible to compete, nor are students of the 2015 competition judges. The 2015 winner will be required to perform at two concerts with the symphony, first on June 4, 2015, at the Meydenbauer Theatre in Bellevue, and again June 7, 2015, at the Eastlake Performing Arts Center in Sammamish.
