Thirty six local lasses took part in the REI/Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust first ever “Women in the Woods” event in Issaquah on May 1. Volunteers included grandmothers, mother and daughter pairs, REI employees and a group from Women Climbers Northwest. These spirited women braved the mud to improve the popular Tiger Mountain Trail by building a raised trail surface and improving the trail tread. Tiger Mountain is one of the most heavily used recreation areas in the state, and those thousands of boots take their toll. Greenway volunteers regularly do trail maintenance at Tiger in partnership with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and City of Issaquah. The Mountains to Sound Greenway connects natural areas, trails, working farms and forests, historic towns and communities, wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities from Seattle across the Cascade Mountains to Central Washington. The Greenway provides easy access to recreation and nature for millions of people in the Northwest, key to the quality of life in this region.
