‘Blue Angels’ compete at Washington FIRST Lego League championship

Lake Washington, Bellevue school district students earn programming award at the Western Washington FIRST Lego League championship, a robotics competition for middle and elementary students, Jan. 30.

Students from the Lake Washington and Bellevue school districts competed at the Western Washington FIRST Lego League Championship, a robotics competition for middle and elementary students, last weekend.

Washington FIRST aims to inspire students to pursue careers in science and technology by creating opportunities like the robotic’s contest.

The students, a mix of fifth and sixth graders on the “Blue Angels” team, competed against about 30 teams and earned the “programming award” at the championship, held at the ShoWare Center in Kent Jan. 30.

Prior to that, the students earned the “presentation award” against more than 500 Washington state teams Dec. 12 at the Eastside Qualifier before advancing to the Semifinals at Shoreline Community College, where they again earned a “presentation award.”
