Jay Rodne leads in state representative race so far

Early results show that Jay Rodne (R), District No. 5 Washington state representative up for re-election, has swept more than 60 percent of the vote.
Rodne's competition, George Hoover (D), has secured about 37 percent of votes.
Only 18 percent of mailed votes have been counted so far. But Rodne, who has been representing east King County in Olympia since 2004, said he was pleased with his standing.
"It's a great number, and I'm feeling optimistic," he said Tuesday night.
Rodne said he has an edge in this race due to his ability to draw support from the entire political spectrum, democrats and republicans alike, and because of his six years of experience as a state representative.
"I know the people of the fifth district," Rodne said. "They don't want higher taxes, they want good schools and a competitive business climate."
Hoover, who could not be reached for comment, is a Sammamish resident who included measures in campaign to improve basic education as well as the environment and clean air.
