‘Great careers’ conference to inspire local students

The Issaquah Chamber of Commerce Education Committee is partnering with the Issaquah Schools Foundation, the Issaquah School District, the Seattle-King County Workforce Development Council and Bellevue College to host its sixth annual Great Careers Conference for high school students on Thursday, Dec. 14.

Held at Bellevue College, the goal of the conference is to let all interested 9th- through 12th-grade students in the Issaquah School District explore alternative pathways to great careers that can be had with a certification or two-year degree, to learn what schooling is required to work in those fields and to hear firsthand the perspective from individuals from the industry.

The school district will be providing transportation for all students interested in attending the event. The chamber anticipates approximately 300 attendees.

Over 20 fields of interest will be made available, and each student will be allowed to participate in three workshops. Great Careers will feature speakers representing 21 industries ranging from aerospace to web design, and 15 education-related exhibitors from a wide range of local learning institutions.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bellevue College is located at 3000 Landerholm Circle SE, Bellevue. For more information, call 425-392-7024 or visit www.issaquahchamber.com.
