The state of Washington mandates that each student has received the required vaccinations to attend school.

In addition to the immunizations needed to attend elementary school, incoming sixth graders will need to have a Tdap. The Tdap cannot be given until a child turns 11-years-old. There is a 30-day grace period from the date of a child’s birthday for children who do not turn 11 until after the school year begins.

If parents choose to exercise the option for an immunization exemption, the requirements changed in July 2011. A certificate of exemption must be signed by an MD/ARNP for personal, philosophical or medical reasons.

Students may not start school on Sept. 4 without the required immunizations.
