There's no doubt about it — media is changing drastically before our eyes.
People want their sports scores now. They want breakdowns of games immediately after they happen — and it makes perfect sense in a day and age when news alerts are sent directly to cell phones.
So, in order to meet the needs of readers, I've provided another outlet for the sports coverage here at the Issaquah and Sammamish Reporter. You can now find me on Twitter under the username @issy_sam_sports, or a www.twitter.com/issy_sam_sports.
This is a great tool to get citizens the breaking sports news in Issaquah and Sammamish. As soon as releases on hirings/firings of coaches, cancellations, or any other large sports announcements are sent to me, they are posted to my followers.
Are you interested to hear about Ichiro's Issaquah home going up for sale? Is it important for you to know when Skyline hires a new assistant football coach? Or, do you find it intriguing that the Issaquah boys soccer team went from winning just three games last year, to being ranked No. 6 this year among schools in Washington, California and Alaska? These are just a few of the unique posts within the last couple of weeks.
In addition, any time one of my sports stories is placed on our Web site, followers are immediately linked via Twitter.
Perhaps the most exciting element of the service, is that it allows me to send live updates from games. I took full advantage of this during the 4A girls state basketball tournament in early March, sending live updates each day from the Issaquah and Eastlake girls basketball games.
For those stuck at work or school, it provided a great alternative to actually being at the game.
I plan to do the same for any state events this spring.
I'm not the only person from the Reporter jumping on the Twitter bandwagon.

As media changes, we are adapting here at the Issaquah and Sammamish Reporter to get your local news relayed in a quick, professional manner. You can find video on our site of various events, like the Issaquah Robotics Society performing at Key Arena, and blogs are coming soon. We might not be the oldest game in town, but sometimes a fresh breath of air does you good.
