Lingerie Football League insults women

Lingerie football is insulting. As a 40-something female, I remember campaigning just to be able to play sports in high school.
Not only were female teams not funded back then but we had no protective sports equipment and that made being aggressive on the soccer fields very painful.
Meanwhile, young female-athletes were mocked and ridiculed for even trying to play sports.
So now after years of heroic effort, just as women are finally beginning to earn respect for their athletic accomplishments, the popularity of lingerie football hurls us all the way back into the dark ages.
Obviously we as a society have not evolved much; not when athletes are urged to flaunt themselves lewdly in broad daylight like workers from the red-light district.
While only a few male athletes would willingly play football, publicly, in stained underwear (just think of the lawn-burns) the bulk of society would vocalize their outrage about them running around in frilly pink panties.
So the question arises: why, in 2009, after women have endured so much for so many decades, does society still communicate that we-as-women must flaunt our physical assets to make it in this world?
