King County is in the process of transferring Klahanie Park, currently in an unincorporated area, to the city of Sammamish, even though the park is outside the boundaries of Sammamish. Sammamish had previously planned to expand one of its parks with lights and turf fields, but was stopped after complaints from residents. Now Sammamish plans to make a lighted turf field at Klahanie park, in an area outside its incorporated boundaries, while the residents of Klahanie have no representation in Sammamish government and no formal way to oppose the changes to the park in their community. Klahanie residents have proposed taking over the park and have even budgeted for it, but King County will only look at governmental agencies to run the park. This is a usurping of the democratic process by the City of Sammamish. Ryan Roberts Klahanie
