REINS Act step in the right direction | Letter

This is in response to the Jan. 12 letter “Reichert must oppose the REINS Act.”

Unfortunately, Ms. Gitelman missed the point regarding the REINS Act – or Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny Act.

For years unelected bureaucrats in Washington D.C. have placed ridiculous regulations on our families and businesses without any oversight from those we’ve elected to represent us. The flood of federal regulations we’ve seen over the last decade or so is killing job opportunities, raising prices on everyday people and preventing small businesses from succeeding.

What Congressman Reichert and others are trying to do is restore sanity to the regulation process, not destroy it. The REINS Act simply requires agencies to submit major regulations, those that would incur over $100 million in new fees, to our elected representatives for approval rather than allowing unelected and uncensored D.C. bureaucrats to impose additional costs on our families and small businesses. Now more than ever we need responsible governing and this is a step in the right direction.
