Issaquah Swim Team takes third place

The Issaquah Swim Team nabbed third place Dec. 14 at the 14 & Under Pacific Northwest Short Course Swimming championships in Federal Way. The Sockeye Club team earned 1,801 team points, finishing behind King County Aquatic Club (5,615.5) and Cascade Swim Club (1,811.5). Issaquah had a combined five male and female swimmers take 11 first places. Katie Kinnear, 14, paved the way with four first-place times, claiming the 100 backstroke (56.85 seconds), 200 butterfly (2 minutes, 5.82 seconds), 100 butterfly (56.76) and 200 back (2:04.40). Three others earned multiple championships. Ben Gore, 10, won the 100 butterfly (1:08.40) and 100 individual medley (1:12.22); Jacob Leahy, 10, won the 50 free (28.39) and 50 fly (29.74); and Maria Volodkevich, 13, took the 100 breaststroke (1:05.36) and 200 breaststroke (2:25.64). Benton Allen, 14, won the 100 backstroke in 57.64 seconds. Four others earned second-place times including Stacy Maier, Kathy Lin, Paul Jett and David Jett.
