Issaquah fends off Skyline rally | Volleyball roundup

Issaquah jumped out to a two-set lead Wednesday night, before fending off a Skyline rally and winning in five sets — 25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 15-25, 15-12. Four Eagles had double-figure kills, led by the 13 of Alyssa Schultz and Stephanie Stoll. Rachel Roeder and Sara Hanna each had 10 apiece. Issaquah setter Riley Sorenson added 44 assists. The Spartans were led by a match-high 18 kills from Maddie Magee, and 10 kills from Olivia Marquardt. Setter Madison Stoa had 37 assists. The victory was Issaquah's sixth straight, improving its record to 7-1 in league and 7-4 overall. Skyline dropped to 4-4 in league and 4-7 overall. Each team has three regular-season league matches left. The Eagles host Bothell (7-1, 9-2) at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19 in a battle for second place. The Spartans take to the road to face Lake Washington at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19. Crusaders get back on track Eastside Catholic bounced back from Monday's loss to Blanchet on Wednesday with a three-set — 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 — victory over Bainbridge. Brooke Bachesta had 13 kills four aces and 13 digs. Kelsey Miller had 27 assists, nine digs and three aces, while Sarah Pancottine had 24 digs. Eastside Catholic improved to 6-2 in the Metro and 9-2 overall. They have their final two regular-season matches next week against Holy Names and Seattle Prep, both on the road. Eastlake swept by Newport Eastlake fell to Newport Wednesday night in three sets — 25-19, 25-23, 25-10. Alyssa Charlston led the Wolves with five kills. Maddy Bell had a match-high 14 for the Knights. Eastlake dropped to 3-5 in league and 4-6 overall with the loss. Newport improved to 5-2 in KingCo and 8-2 overall. Eastlake travels to Garfield at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19.
