Overall records meant little in Friday's rivalry basketball matchup between red-hot Skyline and struggling Issaquah.
In the end, however, it was the eighth-ranked Spartan boys, who prevailed, hanging on for a 50-46 victory over the Eagles at Bellevue College.
Skyline took a 31-21 lead to the locker room at halftime, but a 16-9 run by Issaquah in the third quarter pulled the Eagles to within three, and possible upset. Behind Cory Hutsen's game-high 18 points, the Spartans were able to prevail for their eighth straight victory. Kasen Williams added 13 points, and Connor Gacek had 11 as Skyline improved to 6-1 in league and 10-1 overall.
Issaquah was led by Nick Price's 17 points and Joe Evans' 11. The Eagles dropped their third straight game, falling to 1-7 in league and 4-8 overall.
Eastlake fends off rival Redmond
Eastlake continued its hot-streak Friday night at rival Redmond, beating the Mustangs 64-57 on their home floor.
The Wolves, who have now won five or their last six games, were led by Conner Iraola's game-high 19 points. Michael Russo added 15 and seven other Eastlake players put points on the board.
Eastlake improved to 5-3 in league and 8-4 overall with the victory.
O'Dea fends off EC rally
Eastside Catholic didn't go down without a fight Friday night, but it was sixth-ranked O'Dea that prevailed for a 68-63 victory.
Down 51-36 headed into the fourth quarter, the Crusaders erupted on offense, outscoring the Fighting Irish, 27-17. The deficit just proved too much for EC, however, which dropped to 3-6 in league and 3-10 overall.
The Crusaders were led by the game-high 19 points of Nile Kramer. Joey Schreiber had 16 and Jon Callans and Jake Springfield each had 13.
O'Dea was led by the 17 points of Devante Williams.
