Issaquah lacrosse hammers Stadium in opening round

Kevin Powers scored five goals and collected 10 ground balls Wednesday night to lead two-time defending state champion Issaquah to a 16-4 Division I lacrosse opening-round playoff victory over Stadium High School.

Matt O’Neil had three goals and two assists; Jake Fritz had two goals and three assists and Justin Pennington had two goals and three assists for the Eagles.

The win launched Issaquah into a state-quarterfinal matchup at 7 p.m., Friday with King’s Way at Columbia River High School in Vancouver.

The winner of that quarterfinal matchup will face the winner of Curtis-Mercer Island Wednesday in the state semifinals.

Skyline faces Bainbridge in another quarterfinal game at 7 p.m., Friday on the road. The winner of that game faces the winner of Northshore-Bellevue on Wednesday in the semifinals.

The Division I state championship will take place Saturday, May 29 at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.
