Issaquah Eagles senior to play softball at BYU

Issaquah Eagles senior Morgan Bevell had a perpetual smile on her face as family members, friends and teammates made the short 13-mile trek from the high school campus to the Seattle Seahawks facility in Renton where she partook in a signing day ceremony.

Bevell, who is the starting catcher on the Eagles softball team, signed her name on the dotted line to play collegiate softball at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah on Nov. 14. Morgan’s father Darrell is the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator. Bevell said choosing BYU wasn’t a difficult decision for her to make.

“When I first visited, I absolutely fell in love with the school. I have been to many different colleges and there is nothing better than there,” Bevell said of BYU. “The standards there coincide with mine in sports, academically and spiritually too.”

Bevell enjoys the challenge of calling the shots behind the plate as the Eagles catcher.

“I love it. It is kind of stressful at times but you learn to love it. I’m a perfectionist and a natural leader. I like to take control and have been that way ever since I have been playing softball. It has kind of been a fit for me,” Bevell said of playing catcher. “I fell in love with it immediately.”

Morgan’s father Darrell was thrilled to see his daughter attain one of her most coveted goals.

“She has put in a lot of hard work. It takes a lot of time, effort and energy to be able to accomplish what she did,” Darrell said.

Darrell, who played quarterback during his collegiate days for the University of Wisconsin in the early 1990s, enjoys seeing his daughter throw out runners who attempt to steal bases.

“I think she is a vocal leader and probably one of the coolest things is she really has a strong arm. Hopefully that came from the family,” Darrell said with a smile.
