Local athlete wins Beaver Lake Triathlon

Jason Houck became the first male athlete from Issaquah to ever win the Beaver Lake Triathlon Saturday, taking the 17th annual event in 1 hour, 10 minutes, 3 seconds.

The 32-year-old finished the 1/4-mile swim around Beaver Lake in 5:54, the 13.8-mile bike ride in 37:35, and had the fastest time in 4.3-mile run at 24:45.

Fellow Issaquah athlete, Baraka Poulin, finished the race fifth overall in 1:13:09, while Sammamish’s Mathieu Signoretty was 10th in 1:15:32.

Kara Nielsen, 31, of Seattle won the women’s race, finishing more than four minutes ahead of the second-place finisher in a time of 1:17:20.

Issaquah’s Kenda Super was seventh in the women’s overall race in a time 1:28:00, while Sammamish’s Tammy Wales was 10th in 1:29:02.

The 17th annual Beaver Lake Triathlon featured 362 athletes from all over the Northwest.
