Eastside students nab awards at Student Bio Expo

Eastside Catholic had a strong performance at the 2012 Student Bio Expo, May 24, in Bellevue.
The Sammamish-based school had 20 students compete in the 400-participant event, with five earning awards for their projects.
Two of the award winners reside in Sammamish, including junior Christian Shigley, who placed third in the Research Internship category for his project, “The Role of Media in Adoptive Cell Therapy.”
Madeline Kossik, a senior, earned an honorable mention in the Journalism category for her project, “The Race Against the Ever Evolving Foe: Pseudomonas Aeruginosa.”
Other Eastside Catholic winners included Luke Richardson, 2nd place in Creative Writing; Jonny Bannik, honorable mention in Journalism and Jimmy Patterson, honorable mention in Journalism.
The Student Bio Expo is a unique program put on by the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research that engages high school students in creative ways to demonstrate their understanding
