Boys basketball

The 4A KingCo boys basketball tournament begins on Tuesday with Eastlake traveling to Issaquah in a first round game at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles won six of seven coming down the stretch, including a 13-point win over the Wolves last week. Ty Gibson, Brian Watson and Jake Henke enter the game scoring in double figures for the year while Ryan Sexton, Cory Nevin and Grant Blair also give coach Jason Griffith scoring options.

Eastlake dropped rival Redmond 65-51 on the final day of the regular season, but have lost seven of nine since a holiday tournament championship in California.

Coach Brian Dailey’s team will look to a host of contributors including Mike Hwang and Jake Davidson to help leading scorer Brandon Lester.

The winner will face the winner of another first round game between Bothell and Newport.

The tournament continues Saturday at Juanita High School with the top two finishers earning automatic regional round berths.

Eastside Catholic will open play in the Metro League tournament on Tuesday at home.

Girls basketball

Eastlake will host Newport in a first round game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the 4A KingCo girls basketball tournament. Skyline will welcome Bothell while Issaquah and Woodinville will play a first round game on the opposite side of the bracket.

The Lady Wolves took the only meeting of the year with the Knights, 39-36. Skyline enters the tournament with wins in six of its last seven games and beat Bothell handily earlier in the season.

Issaquah survived a one-point game with the Falcons in late January and will look to the trio of Mandie Hill, Aimee Brakken and Mackenzie Wieburg on offense.

Only the top two finishers will earn automatic regional round spots. The third place finisher will face the third place team from 4A Wesco for the district’s final berth.

The tournament continues Saturday at Juanita High School.
