Sammamish resident qualifies for U.S. Open | Community sports news

Cheng-Tsung Pan, a Sammamish resident and University of Washington golfer originally from Taiwan, qualified for the 2013 U.S. Open after a second place finish at Tumble Creek Country Club in Cle Elum in a sectional qualifier.

Pan, a product of sports training institute IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., recently finished his sophomore year with the Huskies. He qualified for the U.S. Open in 2011 as well and will once again join top players and number of other amateurs from around the country as well as Japan and England at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Penn. June 10-16.

Eastlake graduate Kevin Penner finished five strokes back of Pan and one place out of the second alternate spot.
