Firefighters award scholarships

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 2878 has awarded scholarships to eight students. Seven of the awards go to a high school senior at each of the seven high schools in the area. The eighth scholarship goes to a son or daughter of one of the organization’s members. The scholarships encourage community service.

Now in its 16th year, the program has given more than $52,000 to area students.

Students receiving scholarships are: Colton Green, Cedarcrest High School; Julia Troy, Eastside Catholic High School; Elijah Nicholson, Eastlake High School; Katherine Chun, Issaquah High School; Stephanie Hays, Liberty High School; Jordan Koellen, of Mt. Si High Schoo; Jordan Boyle, Skyline High School; and Philip Trubee (family member), The Overlake School.
