Lake Washington School District will change boundaries for elementary schools beginning in the fall, a change that will affect 801 students districtwide.

The realignment is accommodate a growing enrollment that has increased close to 2,000 students over the last three years to 26,708.

The process to change neighborhood school boundaries began in September and concluded Jan. 26 when the school board accepted a set of recommendations for boundary changes.

In the Sammamish area, Smith and Carson elementary schools, boundary changes only affect undeveloped land. When the land is development, the district anticipates that about 35 future students will go to Carson instead of Smith. The district projects that a total of 114 current Sammamish-area students will be affected by the boundary changes.
