The King County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that a deputy had been arrested in response to allegations of domestic violence and placed under criminal investigation for felony harassment.

Just after 8 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, deputies responded to a report of domestic violence at a home near Issaquah where the accused 34-year-old deputy lives with his girlfriend, who also works with the sheriff’s office.

The deputies and detectives with the office’s Major Crimes Unit determined probable cause to arrest the accused deputy for criminal investigation.

He was booked into King County Jail. Bail was set at $50,000 at a hearing in the Seattle King County Courthouse Monday. He was also immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. An internal investigation is being launched by the sheriff’s office.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said the department could not identify the deputy until charges had been filed. Court documents and the King County Jail register identified the man as Deputy Daniel Jurosh Murphy. He was officially booked for investigation of threats to kill.

Murphy has not yet been officially charged with a crime. He has been with the sheriff’s office for nine years.

Murphy posted bond Monday night and was released from the jail. He is scheduled to reappear in court Wednesday.
