Mariah Bettise takes the oath of office Monday after the Issaquah City Council unanimously voted her to fill a vacant council seat.

The Issaquah City Council unanimously appointed Mariah Bettise to fill the empty council seat Monday.

“I’m very excited to be here,” Bettise said after her first council meeting Monday.

Bettise, a small business owner, was one of five to apply to fill the seat Jennifer Sutton vacated after three months in office. Sutton accepted a position as a public diplomacy officer with the U.S. Foreign Service in March.

The city began taking applications for position No. 2 March 31.

Bettise took the oath of office at the Monday council meeting. Her term ends in 2017.
