King County Library celebrates Dr. Seuss’s 102nd birthday | Slideshow

The King County Library System celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday Wednesday, March 2, at the KCLS Service Center in Issaquah.

County-area children were invited to listen to readings of the author’s books, participate in activities like face-painting and watch an excerpt from “Seussical the Musical.”

Students from Issaquah High School’s National Honor Society program manned booths, read books and played Seussian characters.

KCLS also partnered with Issaquah Valley Elementary School for the celebration.

Dr. Seuss was the pen name of Theodore Seuss Geisel, the author of more than 60 books that have seen publication. His work includes “The Cat in the Hat,” “Horton Hears a Who,” “The Lorax” and “Green Eggs and Ham.” Much of his work has been adapted into other media, such as cartoons, movies and a Broadway musical.

Born in 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Geisel would have been 102 this year.
