Mountains to Sound Greenway volunteers will celebrate National Trails Day on June 1 by working on the Mailbox Peak Trail in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Valley outside of North Bend, as well as Tiger Mountain just east of Issaquah.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has recently constructed a new trailhead at Mailbox Peak and DNR and Greenway Trust staff and crews are rebuilding a new five-mile hiking trail. Washington Conservation Corps, Washington Trails Association and EarthCorps crews and volunteers have joined in on this project, which will continue through the summer. The new trail will improve ecological conditions on the mountain and support heavy recreational use as the trail winds its way up to the mailbox perched on the summit.

On Tiger Mountain, help is needed for ecological restoration and invasive weed removal along popular trails. Register at mtsgreenway.org.

Both events are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Register at mtsgreenway.org.

Throughout the day, hikers can carry food up to trail construction crews camped on the mountain.
