Goddard School to hold silent art auction to raise money for Ben’s Fund

The Goddard School of Issaquah will hold a silent art auction on Saturday to benefit the families of children with autism.

The Goddard School of Issaquah will hold a silent art auction on Saturday to benefit the families of children with autism.

Children, from infants to grade school students enrolled in after-school programs, spent the month of March making personal and class art projects in the style of different real-life artists.

“So our youngest class made paintings like Eric Carle [author of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”], with handprints or footprints … and animals,” school owner Catherine Callan said. “And then our next class up was given Claude Monet — so, work that’s more impressionist.”

Parents will have the option to “buy” their child’s art in the form of a donation to Ben’s Fund, though no one will be obligated to donate.

“It can be a great way for families to begin that discussion about what charity is, what it means to them and what they support,” Callan said.

Ben’s Fund was founded by Seahawks General Manager John Schneider and his wife Traci in 2012 to provide grants for families of children with autism to purchase items they need. It is operated by Familes for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT) of Washington.

The auction will be held 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the school.

Seattle-area locations of The Goddard School have raised $80,000 since 2010. The area locations of the private school franchise have set a goal of $25,000 for 2016, Callan said.

The Goddard School is located at 5716 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway SE in Issaquah.
