Issaquah should provide local bus service

Perhaps you have read that King County Metro has cancelled the DART 927 bus as of Sept. 27, along with many more DART routes. Perhaps it is time for the city of Issaquah to step in and provide local bus service for its citizens.

Perhaps you have read that King County Metro has cancelled the DART 927 bus as of Sept. 27, along with many more DART routes. King County Metro’s first priority was to cut the lowest performing routes, which naturally happen to be all the local routes.

Evidently, profits from those who can afford to pay became their top priority with Metro cuts – even though there are many Sound Transit buses that make the exact same runs between cities. Left behind are our local seniors, teens, and less fortunate who either cannot drive or afford to drive to get to local jobs (often part-time), go shopping, or visit their friends.

The DART 927 has been relied upon by a number of disabled adults (like my son, Adam). This bus is the only bus that provides all day (good for those with part-time jobs) local transportation (between Sammamish, Pine Lake, Klahanie, Downtown Issaquah, Costco area, and more) for many city of Issaquah citizens. Don’t you think these citizens should be valued and accommodated?

Perhaps it is time for the city of Issaquah to step in and provide local bus service for its citizens. I would submit that a 927-like route be funded by the city of Issaquah, perhaps attracting more riders by including both to-and- from stops at the Issaquah Highlands Park & Ride and the downtown Issaquah Park & Ride. The 927 bus route is very high priority for those who will very soon lose their independence.
