Ongoing:

Hope Festival clothing drive
Location: Redmond/Sammamish Teen Center, 825 228th Ave NE, Sammamish
Starting Jan. 4, the teen center is collecting new or gently used clothing through Jan. 22  on weekdays 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the annual Hope Festival, to be hosted in Bellevue in February. For more information contact Tyler Zangaglia at tylerzang@comcast.net.

Upcoming:

Free entrance to state parks
In recognition of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will host a free day for state park visitors Jan. 17-18. On these days, visitors to state parks will not have to pay the $10, one-day fee for a Discover Pass to enjoy Washington’s parks. Visitors, however, will still need to have a pass to access the lands.

 

Wednesday, January 13

Highlands Travel Club talks Iceland
Location: Blakely Hall at Issaquah Highlands, 2550 NE Park Dr
7-8:30 p.m. — Join the Issaquah Highlands Travel Club in exploring Iceland. The informational event includes two presenters’ experience in Iceland. For more information, email IHTravelClub@gmail.com.
The Winter Moon | Native plant uses of the season
Location: Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main St, Bellevue
7 p.m. — Ethnobotanist Heidi Bohan will give a presentation on the relationship between humans and plants, specifically how cultures use plants for things like food, shelter, clothing, transportation, medicine and spiritually.

Thursday, January 14

Normal Aging vs Dementia
Location: Aegis Living at Marymoor, 4585 W Lake Sammamish Parkway NE
6 p.m. — Aegis Living at Marymoor will host a seminar discussing normal aging vs dementia. Presenters include Dr. Shirley Newell, chief medical officer at Aegis, and Rob Liebreich, senior care specialist and regional general manager at Aegis.

 

Saturday, January 16

School of Rock
Location: Meadows Shopping Center, 1640 NW Gilman Blvd, Suite 1, Issaquah
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The event will feature a performance by School of Rock Seattle House Band, an official ribbon cutting and guitar smashing by Issaquah Mayor Fred Butler, and a $500 guitar grand prize giveaway courtesy of SweetWater Sound. School of Rock is a global franchise that teaches students instrument skills and prepares them to take on the stage. With more than 170 locations in nine countries, School of Rock is shaping the future of Rock N’ Roll.
