Skyline boys knocked off by Harvard-Westlake | Wednesday prep roundup

Skyline suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling 70-58 to Harvard-Westlake of North Hollywood, Calif., in their first game of the MaxPreps Holiday Classic in Palm Springs.

The Spartans led 34-30 at halftime and held their final lead midway through the third quarter, 40-39. With the game tied 44-44, Harvard-Westlake went on a 26-14 run to close out the contest.

The Wolverines, who were without 6-foot-7, University of Utah signee Josh Hearlihy, still mustered plenty of offense behind Francis Hyde’s 20 points.

Skyline was led by Will Parker, who had 18 points and four 3-pointers. Lucas Shannon added 16 points. The Spartans, who dropped to 6-1 overall, faces Lincoln (6-0) of Brooklyn, N.Y., at 5:30 p.m., tonight.

Eastside Catholic improves to 2-0 at Chaminade

Eastside Catholic moved into the semifinals of the Chaminade Christmas Classic in West Hills, Calif., Tuesday, behind a 55-44 victory over Menlo of San Francisco.

The Crusaders led 28-18 at halftime and never surrendered the lead in the second half.

Three Eastside players scored in double figures, led by Joey Schreiber’s 19 points. Austin Soukup and Mandrell Worthy scored 15 and 10, respectively.

The Crusaders (7-2) face Valencia (9-2) in the semifinals today. The winner moves into the tournament championship against Chaminade (8-3) or Saugus (9-3).

Eastlake falls in Cactus Jam opener

Eastlake had a tough go in its first game of the Cactus Jam in Phoenix, Ariz., falling 73-57 to Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco, Calif.

The Fighting Irish led the Wolves 49-20 at halftime and never looked back.

Connor Perry and Caleb Perkins led Eastlake with 10 points apiece. Michael Hwang and Brandon Lester each scored nine.

The Wolves, who dropped to 2-7 overall, face San Marino, Calif., at 3:15 p.m., today.

Skyline drops tourney opener in Idaho

Skyline started hot, but couldn’t finish Tuesday, falling 60-38 to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in the opening round of the Coeur d’Alene Invitational Holiday Classic.

The Spartans led 13-12 after one quarter, but fell behind 29-20 at halftime and couldn’t recover.

Megan Wiedeman led Skyline with 14 points.

Skyline fell to 5-3 overall.
