Three hurt when SUV crashes through Pine Lake Starbucks

Three people were injured Monday afternoon when an SUV driven by a 52-year-old Issaquah woman crashed through the front window of the Pine Lake Starbucks in Sammamish.

According to Sammamish Police Administrative Sergeant Jessica Sullivan, the woman was attempting to park in front of Starbucks but her foot, which was in a protective boot, slipped off the brake pedal and she inadvertently accelerated into the building.

Sullivan said there is no law against driving in a boot and the driver was not cited

Three people inside Starbucks sustained minor injuries, including a 26-year-old female from Kent, a 49-year-old male from Sammamish and an 18-year-old female from Sammamish.

All three were transported to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the white Nissan Pathfinder sustained a minor burn from the airbag deployment.

“This was an accident in the truest sense of the word,” Sullivan said. “We are relieved the injuries to the customers inside the store were not more serious.”

The Starbucks store reopened around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to spokesman Zack Hutson, there was no estimate available on the total cost of the damage. He said Monday’s accident wasn’t a first, however.

“We have over 10,000 stores in the U.S., so this has happened, but it’s really rare,” Hutson said.
