A food education talk take place at the Sammamish Library meeting with information and tips to help consumers read labels and choose healthy foods for themselves and their families.

To address growing questions from the community regarding food choices, nutrition, allergies and health, the discussion will center on how to read food labels to choose organic foods and avoid certain ingredients containing genetically engineered foods; why consumers need to be aware of these and how they can affect our health and the environment; and what organic and non-GMO certification means.

The talk will also cover how families can eat well, given busy lives and limited budgets and what consumers can do to improve their food options for the future.

There will be tips, recipes and reference material, plus a review of Michael Moss’s new book, “Salt Sugar Fat.” Speakers are April Rose, Rachel Tomczek and Holly Hallman.
