Kaplan was a varsity assistant for the Spartans during the 2017-18 season. “The committee was looking for a coach who not only knows how to teach basketball but understands that high school basketball is about creating positive, life-long experiences for student athletes. I think we have found that person in coach Kaplan,” Skyline High School Athletic Director Brent Kawaguchi said in a press release. Kaplan, who has more than 20 years of coaching experience, has run his own high school program on two occasions and has served as an assistant at Roosevelt and Lakeside before coaching last season as an assistant at Skyline. In addition, Kaplan spent a season (1998-99) with the Orlando Magic during Chuck Daly’s final season of coaching in the NBA. Kaplan is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to lead Skyline’s boys basketball program. “I’m very excited about the opportunity to do more than coach a team at Skyline. We’re going to build a robust program, do it with integrity, in a professional manner and exemplify the highest levels of sportsmanship,” Kaplan said in a press release. “I’ll be dedicating myself to this construction and with the help of a hard working staff, supportive parents, passionate student-athletes and our community, know we can work together to achieve our goals.”
