Eastlake boys basketball camp is a tradition in Sammamish

Current players mentor future Wolves on the hardwood.

The opening weekend of the Washington State District 9 Little League all-star baseball tournament, which is for players between 11 and 12 years of age, took place at Beaver Lake Park in Sammamish from July 7-8. The event, which is hosted by Sammamish Little League, has 14 teams from Eastside communities partaking in the tournament. The tournament will continue this weekend and will conclude on either Monday, July 16 or on Tuesday, July 17 (if necessary). Games this week during weeknights will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday games begin at 10 a.m. and Sunday games will kick off at noon. The doubles team of Emily Day (Torrance, California) and Betsi Flint (Phoenix, Arizona) earned a comeback 2-1 (19-21, 21-19, 18-16) victory against April Ross/Caitlin Ledoux in the women’s AVP Seattle Beach Open championship match on June 25 at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah. “It has been an amazing experience here in Seattle and having a win early in the season feels great,” Flint said in a press release. “And winning against April Ross, who is the best in the game is just a special feeling.” Day concurred with her teammate’s sentiment. “Today’s win feels great, it’s nice to have the experience of having a championship under our belt,” Day said in a press release. “April is one of the best players in the world and she and Caitlin played great all weekend, so it was definitely a battle on the court.” Photo courtesy of Rick Edelman/Rick Edelman Photography

Day/Flint win AVP Open women’s volleyball tournament

Epic comeback triumph in the title match.

The doubles team consisting of Taylor Crabb (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) earned first place in the men’s AVP Seattle Beach Open volleyball championship match on June 25 at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah. The duo of Crabb/Gibb, which were the No. 3 seed coming into the tourney, defeated the No. 1 seeded squad of Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) in the finals. “It’s a huge feat to play in the finals, especially against a team like Nick and Phil, who are one of the greats,” Gibb said in a press release. “It was a solid match and we tried to remain calm and be consistent throughout it.” Photo courtesy of Rick Edelman/Rick Edelman Photography

The Issaquah Baseball Club conducted its fourth annual Slugfest baseball tournament. The event, which featured 45 teams between the ages of 8 and 12 years of age, took place on June 16-17 at various locations throughout Issaquah. The teams who won titles in their respective divisions consisted of PSP Baseball Club (8U), Issaquah Baseball Club (Purple Division-9U), West Seattle Navy (Gold Division-9U), Falls Little League All-Stars (Gold Division-10U), Issaquah Little League All-Stars (Purple Division-10U), Redmond West (Gold Division-11U), Issaquah Little League All-Stars (Purple Division-11U), Renton All-Stars (Gold Division-12U) and Edmonds Pacific (Purple Division-12U).
