Eastside Catholic defeated Rainier Beach, Bainbridge Island and Seattle Prep during the tournament. The Crusaders only loss came against the Ballard Beavers in the semifinals. Eastside Catholic will compete in the 2017 Sea-King volleyball tournament from Nov. 1 through Nov. 4. Eastlake senior Nate Pendleton finished in first place with a time of 15:41.23. Issaquah senior Luke George captured second place with a time of 15:52.29. Skyline’s Griffin Ganz earned fourth place with a time of 16:00.10 and Issaquah junior Sam Griffith nabbed seventh place (16:10.64). The Issaquah Eagles boys Cross Country team captured first place at the meet, compiling 57 total team points (low score wins in Cross Country). Skyline finished in third place with 88 total points.

Photo courtesy of Karen Hatch                                Eastside Catholic School announced on Oct. 12 that Katie Farr was hired as the new Crusaders girls basketball head coach for the 2017-18 school year.                                Farr, who is a Kirkland resident, is a graduate of Bethel High School in Graham. Farr was a three-year varsity starter and led Bethel in rebounding during a senior season where her team clinched a berth at the Class 4A state tournament at the Tacoma Dome. Farr played collegiate basketball at College of the Desert (Palm Desert, California) and at Avila University (Kansas City, Missouri).                                “We are very excited to have Katie Farr on board with us at Eastside Catholic. She brings with her extensive coaching and playing experience that we know will help take our girls program to the highest level,” Crusaders athletic director Jeremy Thielbahr said in a press release on Oct. 12.                                Farr possesses a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Avila University and will be pursuing a Masters Degree in Education this fall.

The Eagles, who tallied 70 team points (low score wins in Cross Country), outscored second place Camas by 57 points (137 total team points). Issaquah senior Sami Corman captured fourth place (17:58.5), Julia David-Smith nabbed fifth place (17:59.4), Kenna Clawson registered a 10th place finish (18:11.1), Andie Kolasinski finished in 26th place (18:55.4), Lauren Haas finished in 29th place (18:57.3) and Emma Jordan finished in 75th place (19:54.1).

The triumph was Braman’s 200th career win as head coach of the Spartans girls soccer program. Skyline players Daniella Roni (17th minute), Clare Wate (37th minute) and Saskia Slater (71st minute) each scored a goal apiece in the win against Newport. Spartans’ players Alison Kremer, Julia Mitchell and Maddie Butz each had an assist in the game as well. Skyline currently has an overall record of 9-1.
