Former Sammamish library site: Make it a post office, not a rec center

Suggestion for the former Sammamish library site - my personal observations are: Is there really a need for a rec center on the Plateau? I might see it in the inner city where kids really do need a place to hang out that provides a quality draw for after-school activities. I don’t see that as a problem here on the Plateau. We have quality schools that offer a high-level of activities on campus.

For some reason, recreation/youth centers have (sadly) been associated with out-of-town persons using, abusing the facilities, and cases of violence simply because it’s a melting pot of youth.

I personally believe the former library site could better be used as a US Post Office, something that is missing from our city environs. A Post Office wouldn’t require a new driveway, too much remodel to the interior, and would certainly offer a service to each and every resident of Sammamish.

If the City Council does move forward with the concept of a rec center, why not locate in the Sammamish Commons? The infrasctucture is already in place, a skate center is in place, and the Police department is really close!

I believe this economic environment demands practicality over “wants and desires.” A post office is practical; a rec center and gym are simply not practical.
