No reason to change medical marijuana

I-502, the initiative that legalized marijuana in Washington State, is being used to try and undermine or eliminate the current medical marijuana law I-692.

I-502, the initiative that legalized marijuana in Washington State, is being used to try and undermine or eliminate the current medical marijuana law I-692.

There are those in city and state government that see the passage of I-502 as opportunities for a power and tax grab from the medical marijuana community.

Under 502, recreational marijuana will be heavily taxed by the state.  A 25 percent tax here and another 25 percent tax there. But that is not the case with I-692.  Medical marijuana is currently taxed at the much lower standard sales tax rate so it’s much cheaper to patients than recreational marijuana will be.

I-502 is absolutely silent regarding I-692. There is no legal reason to use the recent passage of I-502 to change I-692 medical marijuana.

Both these Initiatives are about new freedoms that Washingtonian voters have granted themselves. But sadly there are already those in power plotting to ignore democracy and usurp the will of the voters.
