Stimulus Mortgage

Disregarding widespread objections from citizens, the Sammamish Council has taken out what amounts to a sub-prime mortgage.

Disregarding widespread objections from citizens, the Sammamish Council has taken out what amounts to a sub-prime mortgage.

In exchange for a piece of the Federal stimulus pie, the Council committed the city to funding a $40 million, 18 year long, East Lake Sammamish Parkway project, that can never be paid off.

The City has funds to complete the long delayed first phase of the 244th project, then the city will need to stop all other road projects to complete the East Lake Sammamish Parkway. This won’t happen and the city will default on the project. In accepting the stimulus money the council turned its back on an earlier promise to restrict the Parkway project to the intersection at Inglewood and East Lake Sammamish Parkway.

To complete a $35 to $40 million parkway project the city will need to dedicate all this money to this one project. (1.7 X 20 years = 34 million.)

Why start a project that can’t be funded to completion?

Why burden citizens with a sub-prime mortgage we can’t pay?

We need a city council that takes our city’s future seriously.
