TDR a good thing for the Highlands

More residents will be good for existing businesses and the city.

Last week’s article about the Park Point TDR proposal (“After council vote, what now for Park Pointe TDR deal?www.issaquah-reporter.com, Sept. 15) suggests there will be continued public process and discussion on the topic.

A land transaction that brings with it the possibility of additional residents in our town center and preserves open space provides the kind of mutual benefit we should embrace. I applaud the city and Port Blakely for working together to stimulate our local economy and improve our quality of life.

More residents will be good for existing businesses and the city. Increased customer traffic stimulates retail activity, welcomed in any economy, but especially in this climate. Increased retails sales will also drive tax revenues to the city and create jobs.

The infrastructure improvements being discussed should also help ease the burden on businesses considering the town center. New parking, roads and residents suddenly make Issaquah Highlands a much more attractive place to open and operate a successful business.

Thriving retail – within walking distance for many – is to the benefit of all.
