Police department to hold 10-week Citizens’ Police Academy

10-week Citizens’ Police Academy set for September

Go behind the badge with the Issaquah Police Department. Meet the men and women who serve and protect the community every day, ride along with a police officer and become a more informed citizen.

Starting in September, the police department will hold a free 10-week Citizens’ Police Academy for adults 21 and older who live or work in Issaquah.

Each course will be taught by Issaquah police officers. In addition to hands-on demonstrations, the interactive courses will cover:

• The art of investigation

• How investigators handle crime scenes

• Stories from our patrol unit

• Partnerships with local schools

• Issaquah’s 911 dispatch center and jail

• Criminal law

• Tactics officers use when dealing with the public

• Officer safety

The academy will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. every Wednesday from Sept. 5-Nov. 7, at Issaquah City Hall and Police Department, 130 E. Sunset Way.

Applicants must have no prior felony convictions, and pass a criminal background check. Apply by Aug. 17.

Selected participants will be notified before the class begins, and expected to attend the full 10-week academy. Participants cannot miss more than a maximum of two sessions.
