Put a lid on it! – Enjoying the outdoors at home

Enjoying the great outdoors of your backyard doesn’t have to be something that is dictated by the weather, according to Jeff Shierka of Reflections Landscaping.

Enjoying the great outdoors of your backyard doesn’t have to be something that is dictated by the weather, according to Jeff Shierka of Reflections Landscaping.

“Outdoor living spaces and kitchens with covered roofs can give you the best of both worlds,” Jeff said.

The Eastside landscaping expert said he had found two great ways of providing covered outdoor spaces.

“One is a pitched roof option that can match architectural characteristics of the existing gable and roof elements. Another option is to add a waterproof deck over a patio. This option works great if a master bedroom is above the patio and French doors can be added to create additional living spaces.”

Reflections, a Sammamish-based business, can also waterproof your deck or outdoor area and totally change the options of your home.

“We have waterproofed existing deck structures coming off of a kitchen or family room on the second floor of homes, and installed the patios below them,” he said “The waterproof deck option can be less obtrusive to the existing architectural elements of your home. We have found that each project brings its own unique opportunities and challenges but hold strong in believing that whatever method is used, it should always look and feel that this is a natural extension of the home.”
