Sammamish celebrates Earth Day with communtiy event

The city of Sammamish celebrated Earth Day last Saturday, April 21, with a celebration event at Beaver Lake Lodge.

The event featured crafts, activities, informational booths, prizes, food trucks, performances, and presentations.

Informational booths were set up by a variety of local groups including Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, Friends of Lake Sammamish, Washington Native Plant Society, Sammamish Community Wildlife Habitat, and the YMCA.

The Sammamish Community Wildlife Habitat gave away 70 locally sourced native trees and shrubs thanks to funding from the National Wildlife Federation and Sammamish Friends. The purpose of the giveaway was to encourage residents to plant the trees in their yard to restore the urban tree canopy and provide wildlife habitat.
